Troubleshooting Small Issues with CPAP machines at Home

The idea of using home based CPAP machines seems easy initially but little problems can indeed manifest themselves when you begin using it on a daily basis. Not very serious most of the time, just some little things that may get on your nerves, particularly when you are going to sleep. And when the sleep is already perturbed, even a little issue may seem larger than it really is.

The positive side is, these problems actually do not require professional assistance at the moment. With a little readjustment here and there everything can be all right, or at least be easy to manage.

When the Mask Doesn’t Feel Right

The mask not fitting is one of the most widespread things that people observe with the use of CPAP machines. It is too tight sometimes, it is too loose sometimes. When too tight it may leave marks or be uncomfortable. In case it is loose, then air begins to leak, and that is what produces the soft hissing sound.

In the vast majority of cases, it is only necessary to tighten the straps. Not much, but little alterations. The tightening of the mind is usually done in the belief that it will seal the leaks yet this normally creates more problems. It requires some trial to find that middle point and frankly it may seem frustrating at first.

In addition, face position is important than it would be anticipated. The mask can be influenced even by the way you sleep.

Dryness and Slight Irritation

Dryness is another issue that is raised with the use of CPAP machines. A dry throat or nose will wake up some users, which is not comfortable. It does not occur to all of us but when it occurs, it can cause one not to want to use the machine the following night.

This is typically enhanced by minor changes. At times altering the humidity can do the trick or simply keeping everything clean and in good condition. Dryness is one of them, which is bigger in the moment, but after it is handled, it becomes less prominent.

Skin irritation may also occur in case the mask is not washed frequently. It is not always evident in the beginning but with time it reveals itself.

Small Noises That Feel Big at Night

Although the use of CPAP machines is expected to be silent, small noises are still audible. You would hardly have paid attention to them during the day. But then by night, when all is still, a sound will seem louder, even a light one.

The noise at times is caused by a loose connection or a small leak of air. It is generally useful to check the mask connection and the tubing. It does not require anything complex, all that is required is to ensure that everything is fitted well.

At times, there are also incidences of the machine running well and then the surroundings make it sound noisier. That is what people gradually get accustomed to.

When It Feels Hard to Breathe

Some of the users feel that it is not entirely comfortable to breathe at the start. It may be overwhelming or not overwhelming, depending on the case. This may complicate the process of falling asleep.

This feeling normally becomes better with the use of the CPAP machines as the body adapts. However, in some cases, minor setting differences matter. It is not necessarily the drastic changes, but just minor ones that will help to get breathing more natural.

It may require little nights to actually know what is right.

Getting Used to Small Fixes

The thing about the CPAP machines is that most of the issues are minor, but they seem big since they concern sleep. As soon as you begin to see patterns, you can deal with them without thinking so hard.

Initially, all problems seem to be serious. However after a period of time you realize that most of them are in the phase of adjustment. You get to know what works and what does not and gradually it becomes a habit.

Finally, there is nothing more than patience in troubleshooting of CPAP machine at home. Minor repairs, minor modifications, and some time normally fix the frequent problems. It is not flawless all the night though it becomes less difficult.
